Which light bulbs for which rooms?
Which light bulbs for which rooms?
As well as the lamps and other fittings you use to light your living room or kitchen, it is important to choose the right bulbs. Since they don't all give the same amount of light, a bulb that is perfect for your study won't necessarily suit your living room, and vice versa. Here are a few basic guidelines to help you use your bulbs wisely.
Living spaces
As a rule of thumb, living spaces need a lighting capacity of 15 to 20 watts per square metre. Go for "daylight" bulbs and avoid halogens, which use a lot of energy. Since the lights in these rooms stay on for long periods, it is best to choose energy-saving bulbs, which last around 15 times longer than others and use 80% less energy.
Bathroom, toilet, garage
For rooms such as the bathroom or toilet, the lighting capacity should be around 10 to 15 watts per square metre. For areas where the light is only switched on occasionally (stairs, toilet), incandescent bulbs are recommended, while fluorescent tubes are one of the most economical ways to light a garage.
Maintenance
To look after your bulbs and get more light from them, simply remove them and dust them with a cloth once a month.
