Buying guide: living spaces
Buying guide for living spaces
It goes without saying that every room, from the living room to the bathroom, the kitchen and the bedrooms, has a type of lighting that suits it best, and that the lighting in our living spaces deserves special care, since these are the rooms where we spend most of our days and evenings. It is here that the family gathers round the table for lunch or dinner, and here too that we leaf through a magazine. All these activities and shared moments call for lighting that brings out the full potential of your living room or bedroom. So it is important to know which lamps to choose and where to place them, and which fittings, from chandeliers to halogen lamps, will best show off the different areas of your home and make the most of the light.
The living room
In every home, the living room is the central space where the whole family comes together to eat or watch television. Lighting is therefore an important consideration in organising the room properly. It pays to have several light sources so you can use them at different times of the evening. First, of course, choose a chandelier or a ceiling light as the general light source. Since the secret of good living room lighting is to use several light sources, it is a good idea to add a floor lamp to the chandelier so you can switch between overhead light and lower, horizontal lighting.
The bedroom
Bedroom lighting is also made up of two light sources. A ceiling light or a chandelier is perfectly suited to the main lighting of the room. The second light source is usually placed next to the bed, so you can read a book or magazine before going to sleep and, above all, switch off the light without getting out of bed. Wall lights are the best choice here.
