Alton chrome bathroom wall light, clear glass on stem, 56.1 cm

A clear glass bell on top of a stem

The Alton model takes its design from a wall-mounted oil lamp: a chrome-plated steel rectangular backplate, a short arm holding a long vertical stem, and at the very top a flared clear glass, held by a knurled ring.

A bare E27, to be chosen with care

The E27 lampholder takes a bulb of up to 40 W, to be purchased separately. It accepts a dimmer, with a dimmable bulb. As the glass is clear, the bulb is visible: an amber filament LED in a pear or tube shape gives the best result, with a soft light of around 2700 K. The wall light is Class I and must be connected to earth. Its IP44 rating makes it suitable for the bathroom, away from the shower and not above the bath.

56.1 cm high: allow for the space

The whole fitting measures 56.1 cm high, 12.7 cm wide and projects 18.9 cm from the wall. The glass, open towards the top, throws the light up to the ceiling: position the backplate about 1.60 m from the floor so that the bulb stays above eye level. Its weight of 1.75 kg calls for wall plugs suited to the surface.
