About this light

Lantern-shaped garden bollard light: a hexagonal glazed cage topped with a curved roof and a finial, set on a short stem with a hexagonal base. At 54 cm tall, it is made for low walls, gate pillars or terrace edges, where a wall lantern has no wall to hang on. Black cast aluminium and clear glass, E27 cap.

Description

A lantern on a pedestal

The upper part echoes the Parish lantern: clear glass panes set into black cast aluminium, a roof with curved slopes and a finial at the top. It rests on a short stem that flares out to a six-sided base, moulded like the rest of the piece.

Light and exposure

A single E27 lampholder, rated for 60 W maximum; the bulb is not included. The bollard light can be used with a dimmer, provided the bulb is dimmable. The IP44 rating protects it from showers and water splashes: it can stay outdoors all year round, on a pillar or a low wall. A warm white filament LED keeps the look of lanterns of old.

Fitting on a pillar or low wall

Allow for a height of 54 cm and a diameter of 23 cm, for a weight of 2.25 kg. You will need a flat, solid surface to screw the base down: a pillar cap, a brick-built wall or a slab. Bring the cable in from below, through a buried duct, and connect the earth (Class I). On a pair of gate pillars, two bollard lights frame the entrance.
