Polished nickel and matching chain
The frame is made of solid nickel-plated, polished brass; the British retailer adds that it is handmade and then waxed. The chain and ceiling rose have the same finish, creating a continuous silver line from the ceiling to the lantern. The pitched roof is pierced with a diamond-pattern frieze, beneath a small dome that carries the hanging ring.
Candles sheltered in a porch
You will need three E14 bulbs, not supplied, of 60 W maximum each. On this light-coloured metal, warm white LED flame bulbs avoid an overly cold result. On a dimmer, it lowers in intensity if the bulbs are dimmable. With an IP44 rating, the lantern withstands splashes and the damp air of an open porch; install it under a roof rather than in the open sky.
Dimensions and support
The lantern body is 44 cm high and 22 cm wide. With the chain, the total height is adjustable from 55.5 to 111.5 cm: shortest under a low overhang, longest under a high porch ceiling. At 4.59 kg, the fixing must transfer the weight to a load-bearing element. Above a door, centre it on the axis of the doorway.
