Choosing a pendant light for the living room

A pendant light provides both practical light and real decorative presence: it is often the centrepiece of a lighting scheme. In the living room, lighting should switch easily from bright light for guests to a softer mood.

Height and diameter

Above a table, allow 75 to 85 cm between the bottom of the pendant and the tabletop; where people walk underneath, keep at least 2.10 m of clearance. Choose a diameter of roughly half the table width.

Create several moods

Pair ceiling light with lower sources and choose warm white (2,700 to 3,000 K) with a dimmer to adjust the atmosphere.
