Choosing a pendant light for the dining room

A pendant light provides both practical light and real decorative presence: it is often the centrepiece of a lighting scheme. In the dining room, the table is the focal point: it should be well lit without dazzling guests.

Height and diameter

Above a table, allow 75 to 85 cm between the bottom of the pendant and the tabletop; where people walk underneath, keep at least 2.10 m of clearance. Choose a diameter of roughly half the table width.

Show off the table

Centre the light on the table rather than the room, and choose warm white that flatters food and faces.
