Choosing a pendant light for the kitchen

A pendant light provides both practical light and real decorative presence: it is often the centrepiece of a lighting scheme. In the kitchen you need clear light on the worktop and island, without casting shadows over your hands.

Height and diameter

Above a table, allow 75 to 85 cm between the bottom of the pendant and the tabletop; where people walk underneath, keep at least 2.10 m of clearance. Choose a diameter of roughly half the table width.

Practical light

Neutral white (3,000 to 4,000 K) helps with precise tasks; choose easy-to-clean materials near the cooking area.
