Reef outdoor pendant light in Victorian bronze, etched glass capsule

A nautical lantern in etched glass and Victorian bronze

The body is a glass capsule etched on its inner face: the glass takes on a frosted look that diffuses the light and hides the bulb. Two cast aluminium rings hold it in place, beneath a small domed roof. The Victorian bronze finish, a dark brown with coppery highlights, goes well with a wooden door, a brick facade or dark joinery.

Lighting a porch or covered entrance

The E27 lampholder takes a bulb of up to 60 W, not included; a frosted 2700 K LED gives a soft light through the glass. The IP23 rating protects against drips and light rain falling at an angle, but not against heavy showers: keep it for a spot under a roof, such as a canopy, a porch or a covered area. Class I luminaire, to be connected to earth.

Chain, dimensions and fixing

The light fitting alone measures 32 cm high by 14 cm wide and weighs 2.5 kg; the chain lets it hang down from a high ceiling. In a walkway, allow at least 2 m of clear height beneath the lantern.
