Hallway wall lights mark out the way without touching the ceiling. Choose a slim, low-profile model, then set the height and spacing along the walls.

Height, spacing and projection

Fit wall lights 1.60 to 1.80 m high, above the shoulders of passers-by. In a hallway, one wall light every 2 to 3 m avoids gaps in the light; alternate walls if the hallway is wide, or keep to one side if it's narrow.

  • Narrow hallway: choose a flat design that won't catch a bag or a box; check its depth on the product page.
  • Entrance hall: one wall light by the door welcomes you, another lights the console table or shoe cabinet.
  • Staircase: follow the slope with a wall light every 2 to 3 m, always at the same height above the steps.

Light and switching suited to a through space

A colour temperature of 3,000 K, a warm white, ensures a smooth transition with the neighbouring rooms. Where the light is often switched on for just a few seconds, integrated LED designs give full light instantly and have no bulb to change; others take an E14, E27 or G9 LED bulb. You'll find them in our LED wall lights.

Up-and-down designs draw a pattern on the wall and add rhythm to a long hallway. Metal leads, with glass, acrylic or fabric; there are modern and classic designs, as well as vintage, rustic, industrial and Art Deco. A damp entrance porch can take an IP44 design. Frequently asked questions about hallway wall lights

How many wall lights for a 6 m hallway?

With one wall light every 2 to 3 m, two or three are enough. Space them so that each end is lit, especially in front of doors. If the hallway leads to bedrooms, dimming or a lower-output bulb avoids dazzling anyone getting up in the night.

Wall light or ceiling light in a hallway?

A wall light lights the walls and adds depth, while a ceiling light lights the floor evenly. In a low hallway or one with no central ceiling outlet, wall lights are easier to spread out. In a long hallway, combining a hallway ceiling light with wall lights gives bright light for cleaning and soft light in the evening.

How do I light an entrance hall with a mirror?

Place a wall light on each side of the mirror, at face height, to light your face without shadows. A single light above the mirror accentuates your features more. Choose a glass or fabric diffuser and a CRI of at least 80, so you can judge the colour of an outfit before going out.
