About this light

An uplighter floor lamp with reading light, the brown Detroit casts light from a bowl up towards the ceiling, while keeping a small adjustable source for reading. It is controlled by a dimmer. Its double metal stem rises to 180 cm: enough to light a living room from above and an armchair from the side with a single light.

Description

A bowl up high, a reading light at the side

Two twin metal rods rise from a circular base and join beneath the flared bowl at the top. The reading light, a small reflector on a short arm, sits at mid-height; the manufacturer describes it as adjustable. The control box is fitted on the stem. The cable is black.

What the dimmer allows

The switch is a dimmer: the light goes down in the evening and up for reading. The two sources switch on independently of each other, according to the manufacturer. Each takes a GU10 bulb of up to 35 W, to be purchased separately; dimmable GU10 LEDs avoid flicker at low brightness. Class I light fitting, to be connected to an earthed socket.

Where to place it

At 180 cm tall, the bowl sits above eye level and does not get in the way. The footprint remains 25.5 cm per side and the weight 6.5 kg. The cable measures 200 cm. A standard ceiling height is enough; a light-coloured ceiling reflects indirect light better.
