An LED that works with a switch is not automatically compatible with a dimmer. Check the complete combination: source, fitting, any driver and control.
Identify the source
For a replaceable bulb, record the exact reference and dimming statement. For integrated LED, consult the fitting and driver information. The word LED or the presence of a switch does not confirm dimmability.
Identify the control method
Wall dimmers, remotes, touch controls and connected systems are not interchangeable. Some fittings have their own intended controls. Record the specified system rather than assuming an existing dimmer can remain.
Check the references together
| Component | Information to gather |
|---|---|
| Source or fitting | Reference, dimming function and instructions |
| Driver where present | Reference and intended control method |
| Dimmer | Reference, supported loads and stated limits |
| Lamp group | Intended quantity and configuration |
Use manufacturer compatibility lists
A list concerns tested references and configurations, not every product from a brand. Check the list version and number of lamps considered. Maximum wattage alone does not establish that the combination will dim correctly. Without confirmation, ask the manufacturer or an electrician before ordering.
Plan commissioning
Have electrical alterations performed by a qualified professional. Report flicker, noise or unexpected switching off rather than ignoring them as normal. Check minimum levels, memory and colour changes in the exact model specification. This guide prepares questions; it does not provide wiring modifications.
